Ever since Ava Jinying, singer-songwriter and guitarist from Los Angeles, was a little kid, she has used her art as a means of confronting monsters. The only way for her to process a world built upon contradiction, chaos and horror is to be able to put it into a piece of art or music, turning it into something beautiful. She hopes that by sharing her music with the world, it might be able to do the same for others and be a healing force (for people and monsters alike).
Ava is constantly exploring sonically, and works beyond the boundaries of genre while writing and self-producing her work. Playing blues, rock, and jazz guitar since age 6, she takes inspiration from everyone, from Tom Waits to Nine Inch Nails, Buika to Bjork, Hendrix to BTS. She was deeply affected by both the punk and alternative music her mom showed her growing up, and the classical music that she was exposed to through her dad, a cellist. A love of music transcended everything growing up, and playing the guitar became the ultimate outlet for her to inhabit the world wholly as she was.
Since moving to Boston for college and living through the COVID pandemic, music has once again returned to the forefront of Ava's life as she reckons with her half-Asian identity, the collective identity crisis plaguing the American landscape, and the process of growing up in a broken planet. She hopes her journey resonates with you through her music, and thanks you for listening by her side as she keeps exploring.
