2163 -- While inhabitants of planet earth struggle to survive because of scarce resources, pollution, overcrowding, political issues and climatic migrations, some multinational corporations decide to invest in the construction of a resource self-sufficient orbital station.

2184 -- Atyrus is put into orbit and only richest individuals, politicians and famous personalities will have access to it. Opulent housings, new technologies, treatments for any kind of disease as well as an abundant fauna and flora from earth is reconstituted in gigantic natural parks, while 95% of these disappeared from earth.

The same year the "Élite" leaves earth precipitously when the population learns about the Atyrus' existence. Revolts spark, destroying thousands of cities and leading to the death of millions of people.

2186 -- The "Avaresk '' emerges in some regions. Each month, a handful of volunteers are selected to fight to the death in dedicated arenas. After each fight, the last standing fighter is allowed entry to the Atyrus. Out of despair, diseases, money and love, many are those willing to participate, thereby decreasing poverty, criminality and overcrowding.
