AYA J is an indie innovative electro-pop duo that burst onto the music scene in late 2020. The band is made up of Angus Field, a Gumbaynggirr man, from Coffs Harbour, and American drummer, Sam Miller who lives on the Gold Coast.
They gained the opportunity of supporting The Rubens in 2022, and racked up two prestigious finalist award nominations for 2021 Song Of the Year at the Queensland Music Awards (QMA) and Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMA) for multiple songs from their debut ‘Tenth Street’ EP, and were GCMA ‘People’s Choice’ finalists. Angus was shortlisted in the competitive 2022 APRA AMCOS Smugglers of Light PDA’s for songwriting and nominated in the 2022 Queensland Music Awards for Highly Commended song for writing ‘Shine’. He is a selected participant in Mushrooms First Nations Pathyways Program 2022 and SongHubs Gold Coast 2022.
In May of 2021, the band headlined their first national tour, selling out shows at HOTA and captivating audiences at the Oxford Art Factory, Bourke Street Mall, Brisbane Festival, BLAKSOUND, Yirramboi Festival, and more.
