AYA MAI

Danish-born AYA MAI has been around music her whole life. Professionally trained from age 8, her vocal craft is groomed and developed in a mix of natural ability and formal coaching. At the age of 12, she was hired by X-Factor DK to sing the opening tune at the finals in front of 40.000 people at Telia Parken Stadium, broadcasted live on television across Denmark. At 16, she was offered a label deal, but felt she wasn’t ready to expose herself in a way that didn’t comply with her integrity. During her high school years, she made her mark in the jazz community touring Scandinavia and Asia, performing with various artists like Brian McKnight, Dave Weckl, Niels Lan Doky, Debbie Sledge, Jeff “Tain” Watts and more. Through this breadth of live experience, her vocal chops were conditioned and she excelled in interpreting the songs of the artists that she had always admired. But after years of interpretation, AYA became hungry for writing her own original material as an artist. On longer stays in New York and Los Angeles in 2018 working w/ a range of American songwriters and producers, she threw herself into writing and began collaborating in the studio with an international cast of writers and producers. Alongside writing/performance partners Kris Mai (Instrumentation) and Jona Mai (Drums, Percussion & Programming), she is ready to introduce her musical vision to the world; presenting her own Scandinavian interpretation of a soundscape inspired by American pop culture.
