Azrael

Azrael is Angel Datil's musical persona. The name means "Angel of God" or "Help from God" in Hebrew, but it's also the name of the angel of death in some cultures. Azrael felt he had the reverse Midas touch, and everything he touched died. This feeling came from the unfortunate betrayals and struggles he faced as a teenager. As he got older, his music got darker as he detailed his issues with drug abuse and depression.

Azrael graduated from high school with a 3.6 GPA and a music scholarship. He applied to Georgia State University to learn music production and audio recording, but his mental health struggles worsened. He took classes like world history and world religions that made him question his existence.

Azrael's schizophrenia worsened as he delved into occult practices. He prayed for help and had a supernatural encounter with Jesus on April 8th, 2023. He kept running into Jesus everywhere. Despite his growing faith, he struggled with active psychosis and went to the mental hospital after not eating or sleeping for three days. While hospitalized, Azrael decided to devote his life to Jesus because only thinking about Jesus dissipated his delusions.

After he left the hospital, Azrael started making music that told his story of Christian salvation and redemption. He mixes hip-hop, rock, and EDM uniquely, setting his music apart from other Christian music you might have heard. Check out his music on Spotify.
