Music has always been BAALE's first love. Even as Iqbaal Ramadhan was evolving from child actor into one of Indonesia’s in-demand leading men, he always had one foot firmly in music. Be it as a member of boy band Coboy Junior, theme song singer of teen romance flicks, or the bass-playing co-founder of now-defunct indie pop group Svmmerdose, his colorful musical journey has mirrored his role-playing on the big screen.
But as BAALE, you’re hearing the real Iqbaal Ramadhan as a musical artist for the first time. Using his childhood nickname as it also represents the truest version of himself, debut album Fortuna is about being young and in the spotlight. Influenced by the sounds he grew up on, these are BAALE's thoughts, feelings, hopes and fears brought to life with the aid of collaborators such as Hendra Jaya Putra (Rock N Roll Mafia), Randy Danistha (Nidji) and Vincent Rompies.
Despite his built-in moviegoing audience, BAALE has opted to work on his craft as a live performer via small tours, afternoon festival slots, and being a guest vocalist with his heroes such as The Changcuters and Rumahsakit. And now on new single Yang Kutakuti, BAALE goes into deeper and darker territory. Produced by Enrico Octaviano (Lomba Sihir) and written with help from Hindia, it’s a testament to his ongoing artistic exploration and growth.
So wherever Iqbaal Ramadhan’s cinematic career takes him, you can be sure that Baale will still be making music. Because you never forget your first.
