Sisters Catherine Cowan and Lisa-Marie Baker have written songs together for as long as they can remember. Their first song ‘Jimmy’ was written at the age of 5 and 8 respectively about their family car - a green robin reliant! Fast forward to 2004 when they recorded their first album ‘Less Than Nothing’. It is a collection of acoustic and swing band songs, written in the style of jazz standards. One of the ballads ‘Getting Ready For No-One’, was featured on York TV and BBC 2 ‘Castle In The Country’ with Nicki Chapman and John Craven.
Several years later they founded their cabaret-noir band ‘Vesper Walk’ which gained a loyal following and was nominated for Outstanding Band of the Year in 2016 and 2017 by Yorkshire Gig Guide. Baker and Cowan co-wrote the Vesper Walk double EP ‘Fallen Angel’ which has been performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Brighton Fringe Festival and the National Centre for Early Music. The songs have been played on BBC Radio York, Vale Radio and BCB Radio. Aside from the albums there has been a collection of folk songs, songs for children and Christmas songs written in a vintage Irving Berlin style. They are currently recording their musical ‘Really Really Want’ which previewed at York Theatre Royal in 2016.

BakerCowan refuse to be put into any one genre and retain an eclectic song writing style. They are always
keen to collaborate with singers - do get in touch if you like what you hear.
