Band 17 is a Moroccan indie rock band formed at Al Akhawayn University. Their name comes from the campus building where their music club met, but their true origin was frontman Aniss Aoudjehane’s desire to create a music video for a class project—an idea that led to their debut single “Stinks and Stones” (2024). The lineup features Aniss (vocals, guitar), Oussama Bouij (guitar), Abdellah El Mhajri (bass), Ayoub Hassoun (drums), and since 2025, Kacem Chawqi (keyboards).

Drawing inspiration from Cage the Elephant, The Backseat Lovers, The Dead Pirates, Foo Fighters, Strawberry Lace, Phoenix, The Strokes, and others, Band 17 blend versatility with emotional storytelling. They see themselves as modern bards, crafting songs that tell both personal and wacky stories. Their debut EP “Graduation” (2025) captured the bittersweet themes of leaving university life behind.

So far, they’ve performed at the Al Akhawayn Short Film Festival and at Aniss’s capstone showcase, which featured a full live performance of Graduation. Next, they’ll take the stage at Tremplin, part of Casablanca’s legendary L’Boulevard Festival, bringing their storytelling-driven rock to their biggest audience yet.
