Not much about Basement Queen can justify their claim of being a desert rock band, except that they came from a cultural desert called metropolises-in-modern-day-China.
The rock duo consists of string instrument operator (predominantly bass) DJ GU, and drums perpetrator WEI ZAI - the scarcity of members is more of a consequence instead of a choice.
Basement Queen pursues desert rock, stoner, and other blues-based psychedelic music, therefore the obsessive usage of fuzz & distortion. But along the journey, they have gradually reached to a tacit agreement, making a disgracefully turn to the posh taste of dance & alternative sound.
The product of it feels like halfway through a gender reassignment surgery – definitely weird, but difficult to take one’s eyes away from it.
“Join us in the basement and be our queen (drag or not).”
