Remarkable things are remarked upon, and this Is certainly the case with Mohammed Basheer. A musical anomaly, descending from the Arab tribe Jaafra in Aswan, with a fixed smile and a charm-full presence. He grew up surrounded by the sounds of festive traditions of his tribe, “I spent most of my summer vacations in Aswan, with a big family who taught me the customs and traditions of our tribe, and our special accent” says Basheer. Influenced by ja’ffary culture during his youthfulness, Basheer developed an affinity for music.
Subsequently, Basheer underwent various experimental phases, with his band incorporating traditional oriental sounds, accompanied by modern western music. An assortment of variant genres such as: reggae, jazz, fused with the sounds of modern western instruments, resulting in ear candy. This concoction of modernity, and tradition has created a new phase of high energy, feel-good vibe Upper Egyptian folkloric music, making them a popular choice throughout venues, and festivals in Egypt.
Despite of his life in Cairo, Basheer, completely immersed in folkloric Upper Egypt – his songs, especially those that marked the beginnings of his career - is responsible for the reviving Egyptian folklore. Some of the songs in his album are derived from tradition, which speak of the Nile and the charming evenings spent in Upper Egypt. Inspiration often borrowed from the festive traditions of his tribe.
