BAY CITY ROLAZ is a group of musicians who have been involved in many bands and important events in the experimental scene in Tokyo, including HUH, which they lead, whales with Hakobune and extremeOBSN, Exppish with Yuko Araki, and PRAYMATE with Miyabe Kouki of ENDON. The experimental music unit consists of Kyosuke Terada, the leader of many bands and important events, and Kentaro Nagata, a musician/engineer/producer whose activities range from pop to avant-garde.
Their first full-length album, "MAZE," was produced with the participation of many artists and creators, as is typical of the duo's wide range of activities. The collaboration includes Sayaka Botanic of group A from Berlin, Germany and Tzu Ni, an up-and-coming artist from Taiwan. The tracks were recorded by Bay City Rolaz in a studio in Minato Ward, Tokyo, and mixed by Sayaka Botanic and Tzu Ni with piano, violin, voice, and electronic sounds by Nagata.
The album also features a remix by Yuko Araki, drummer of the tribal dream psychedelic band KUUNATIC, who has just released a solo album on the prestigious ROOM40 label and an album produced by Tim DeWit, formerly of Gang Gang Dance.
The music video for "Solid Rains" was directed by up-and-coming young filmmaker Yuri Saito. The music video for "SOLID RAINS" was directed by up-and-coming young filmmaker Yuri Saito, and is inspired by the song's radical and grand scale.
