Bean Friend is a composer & multi-instrumentalist from Buffalo, NY. His debut solo album <a href="spotify:album:1cjpOKqjay56BIgD2xm8bg" data-name="The Moving Decade">The Moving Decade</a> was recorded in an abandoned grain silo in Silo City (Buffalo) in 2016. With just a piano in a grain silo, it allowed for swirling reverb and languishing overtones, making for an original and compelling ambient album. Bean's second album Sound-on-Film , was released later that year. <a href="spotify:album:2KV2hd96rRik66HemZl3r0" data-name="Sound-on-Film">Sound-on-Film</a> had more elaborate instrumentation, including string sections and a full band.
Bean released a gentle piano EP <a href="spotify:album:69zrpXUjgVGoeKY68U2tiI" data-name="Ataraxy">Ataraxy</a> in 2018. In 2022, Bean recorded and released <a href="spotify:album:5YMsU2hxDz2GqoNgexHlOI" data-name="Something In The Way">Something In The Way</a>: a peaceful piano tribute album to his favorite alternative rock songs from the 1990s. His rendition of Weezer's <a href="spotify:track:3k0GBmEu4oUS8rQaaT6DcI" data-name="Buddy Holly">Buddy Holly</a> has made it on multiple playlists, and remains a favorite on the album.
Bean released <a href="spotify:album:4C85ePU6tRQ0g8rrhgHWNo" data-name="Earth Dreams">Earth Dreams</a> and <a href="spotify:track:0J96tcgzc0tfic3umE1Cg4" data-name="Charlotte">Charlotte</a> in 2023, tapping into his love for indie-rock, post rock, and shoegaze.
From Summer 2024 to Summer 2025, Bean will release one peaceful piano song every 3 weeks in collaboration with Netherland's record label Piano and Nature. For each song released, a tree is planted. Expect a full-length peaceful piano album in Summer 2025.
Bean also composes music for TV, film, and commercials, and plays guitar/keys in Philly band <a href="spotify:artist:7emzuJJA7yCSe3lFP0geRX" data-name="Restorations">Restorations</a>.
