Bears in Hazenmore

In search of ways to express the beautiful and lonely expanse that is the northern grasslands, five friends from Swift Current, SK discovered meaning in the raw connections they cultivated with each other through sound. Bears in Hazenmore is a rock band, yet they often reject conventions in slight but powerful ways. Drawing from a deep love for experimental music and the heartbreak of first loves, they created the wide open sounds of their early EPs S/T and Airwaves, and followed it with a love letter to place with their full length Atlas, crafted over cross-country tours that ate up their 20s. Their forthcoming 2024 release is a culmination of songs years in the making – built, torn down, and built again – asking tougher questions about a world more filled with suffering, mistrust, self-doubt, and joy than before. With shades of their earlier post-rock selves still peeking through, their sound has evolved to include synths and 80s-pop guitar layered with the familiar horn timbres the band is most recognized for. At times you’ll feel the urge to move, at others you’ll feel the brute force of loss and fear, with the only constant an honest take of what it’s like to love and live in a world that deserves our empathy.
