After his first band, Virginia folk punk outfit The Smokin' Crows, disbanded and its members scattered across the country, multi-instrumentalist Zane Rerek relocated to the Midwest and began to focus on heavier sounds. Using the environmental destruction and haunting folklore of his native West Virginia as a backdrop, Bedlam & Squalor was born. The project draws influence from several different corners of heavy music, including the cold, frenzied soundscapes of Scandinavian Black Metal and the crushing weight of Doom. Bedlam & Squalor's debut EP, The Misery of Flesh & Blood, was released in Spring 2018.
