Before Soma

The name Before Soma comes from Aldous Huxley's book, Brave New World.
This dystopian novel depicts the future of mankind where people are under the complete control of the government, which doesn't control by rules, but by a lack thereof. They offer different modes of pleasure to keep the people happy and sedated. One of these is a drug called Soma that induces a great feeling, but it ensnares its users into an addictive cycle of creative numbness.


The members of Before Soma compare much of today’s music to the drug “Soma”. Many people have become blind to the message behind the music they listen to. Listeners in today's age seem to be less cognizant of the message being fed to them, and instead focus on how it makes them feel. If the song has a cool beat, they’ll bump it in their cars.


Before Soma’s style is the perfect blend of blues, alternative, rock, and country. The band began in early 2018 in Birmingham, Alabama, and since then has released three singles and an EP. At their shows, the members of Before Soma take their listeners away from the numbness of today’s music as they strive to embody the energy and spirit of Rock and Roll.
