Minnesota death metal quartet Begravement has announced their intention to flatten all who stand in their way with the release of their debut album Horrific Illusions Beckon. Through its nine-track, 54-minute runtime this epic of revivalist death metal takes listeners through a serpentine labyrinth of hard-hitting riffs, tasty leads, and all-around good clean fun (with some blast beats sprinkled in for good measure). Through Begravement's dedication to the craft of quality death metal, Horrific Illusions Beckon has already become an underground favorite and one of the most highly-praised debuts of 2023.
Begravement was formed in 2018 by guitarist/vocalist Ezra Blumenfeld and guitarist Owen Hiber. Bassist Matt Schrampfer, drummer Grady Westling, and new guitarist Taylor Haagensen joined the fold in 2020, 2021, and 2024, respectively. The 2021 Conjuring the Necromancer EP helped them begin to grow an underground cult following and a stream of the album was featured on the website of Decibel Magazine. Listeners around the world have consistently praised Begravement's nostalgic-yet-unconventional blend of old-school death metal styles with a thrash metal attitude, with influences and flavors from more technical, melodic, and progressive styles of extreme metal sprinkled in..
The future is looking bright for Begravement; Plans are underway to begin touring on a regional and national scale, and fans should stay tuned for news of yet another album in the not-so-distant future.
