Although officially founded in 1861, the origins of the Beland Band of Zejtun ( Malta ) can be traced back to 1829, following the foundation of the ‘Zejtun Orchestra’ by the cotton merchant Gio Batta Diacono. The band was initially known as ‘La Banda del Zeitun’ and over the years it grew in stature under the direction of well-renowned Directors, most notably Maestro Carlo Diacono. The band was then referred to as ‘La Filarmonica del Zeitun’, while from 1893 onwards it was officially named as ‘La Filarmonica Beland’.
Today, the Beland Band is one of the most prominent bands in the Maltese islands. This esteemed reputation was built throughout the past decades, largely stemming from the Band’s performance in several notorious events, including participation in several local feasts and governmental events. Additionally, the Beland Band gained international recognition when it toured and performed in Germany, the Russian Federation, Italy and the Vatican City.
