Bells Fell Silent was born during a period of time when Gustav Sigala Haggren realized he was struggling with chronic fatigue syndrome. He was uncertain if he would ever set foot on a stage again and his ability to be creative stopped. His therapist gave him the advice to not turn away from the urge to create, to let the music be his oxygen and a place to land.
Gustav has been performing for about twenty years and has been on several tours in Europe, USA and Canada, and released many albums with projects such as Case Conrad, Gustav And The Seasick Sailors, Shooting John and Haggren Gravlund. But then it fell apart, he lost his self-confidence and everything fell silent. Maybe that is when he found the name for the project, without being aware of it.
Then one summer something happened. An old friend and promoter from Hamburg had moved to the woods in Småland, Sweden. She invited Gustav to come and play a show at a festival. Feeling unable to play his old material, Gustav wrote a few new songs. Then he decided to accept the invitation.
In his new songs he got closer to his own self than ever before. He wrote about being born without his right hand, about self-doubt, about becoming a parent and not knowing how to be a role model to your children.
Now these personal stories will come out. The result is electronic soundscapes that illustrate the stories that are being told through Gustav’s voice.
