The Benga-Captain, Papi OdeQ, an artistic luminary rooted in Nairobi, Kenya, boasts a rich tapestry of experience spanning over two decades. A maestro in the realms of song and verse, he weaves compelling narratives as a Singer/Songwriter, graces the theatrical stage and screen as a seasoned Actor, and crafts cinematic tales as a versatile Filmmaker (Scriptwriter/Director/Producer). The soulful journey of artistic expression led him to establish the Tamasha Beats Band in 2008, where he is the Founding Director and Lead Singer, guiding its triumphant trajectory.
Papi's artistic resonance extends to his role as a recording artist, with three evocative studio albums to his credit (UNVEILED – Released in 2011, WATU SIMBA – Released in 2017 and SOKO HURU – Collaborative Project with Ricky Na Marafiki Band – Released in 2019). Papi's music is predominantly Benga Music. (Benga Music is Kenya's foremost, oldest, most successful, and celebrated pop music). Papi fuses the old rhythms and melodies of Benga Music with other World tunes and melodies: Congolese Rumba, Afro-fusion, Traditional Kenyan rhythms, Soul makosa, etc. The Benga-Captain is currently working on his fourth studio album.
