The band Benjamin B. is established in 1994 when singer/guitarist Phybeau B. quits lawschool. He finds two allies: Barbara B. and Michel B. The name of the band is formed when Phybeau is looking for a nice font style on his computer. He can’t get rid of the letter B and prints Benjamin with a huge B behind it.
The band becomes well known in the nineties with their pointy guitar popsongs. Among their musical heroes are Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., The Lemonheads, The Breeders, and The Pixies. The songs ‘Cherry Blossom’ and ‘Forever Careless’ are being played on radio stations Kink FM and Studio Brussel a lot. They made it to the finale of De Grote Prijs van Nederland, won the Groninger Popprijs and their demo became demo of the year in Musicmaker magazine. They performed with bands like Nada Surf, The Posies, K's Choice, Daryll-Ann, Johan, Caesar, Magnapop and Metal Molly.
In 1996 the band is offered a record deal with Amsterdam based Record Company Excelsior Recordings. They got the offer on account of their first independently released cassette in 1995. After this, two more albums follow: The Comfort of Replay and Instant Art. In 1998 Barbara B. quits the band and is replaced by Vincent. Guitarist Nico joins in to complete the band.
In 2003 the band records their last album 'Tired of the Moon'. Benjamin B. ceases to exist in 2005.
In 2020 Excelsior Recordings reissues the first recordings as an 25th Anniversary Edition on LP/CD/MC.
