Bernie Schwartz (not to be confused with the Brooklyn-born Bernie Schwartz who became the actor Tony Curtis) was a Hollywood-based songwriter and occasional singer who left behind several impressive recordings and songs under a multitude of pseudonyms, including Don Atello, Bernie Ballentine, and Adrian Pride. He had a long association with the Everly Brothers, and he and Phil Everly were jointly or singly -- it depends whom you ask -- involved in writing songs recorded by Schwartz. Schwartz's career in music cut across several periods and idioms -- he collaborated for a time with Sharon Sheely (beginning his contact with the Everlys), working in a pop/rock mode, and successfully moved into raga-influenced pop/rock at the outset of the psychedelic era (as Adrian Pride) with the single "Her Name Is Melody." A couple of years later, he was back as a member of the band the Comfortable Chair, which was good enough to command the attention of a couple of members of the Doors as producers. Schwartz also cut a solo album called The Wheel, but he later left music to become a successful author of self-help and popular psychology books. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
