b. Anne Martin, Whitstable, Kent, England. A founder member of Liverpool cult-favourites Deaf School, vocalist Bright embarked on a solo career following the group’s demise. Her early singles, ‘My Boyfriend’s Back’ and ‘Captain Of Your Ship’, were remakes of well-known female group classics by the Angels and Reparata And The Delrons, respectively. The singer’s sole UK Top 50 success was derived from a third release, ‘Hello, I Am Your Heart’. Backed by the Illuminations, who included Ian Broudie (guitar; later of Lightning Seeds) and Clive Langer, Bright embarked on a tour of British clubs and colleges and completed an album that offered versions of Betty Wright’s ‘Shoorah Shoorah’ and the Deaf School favourite, ‘Thunder And Lightning’. Unable to make a significant commercial breakthrough, she guested on several live appearances by Clive Langer And The Boxes, before reverting to a domestic life following her marriage to Madness’ singer, Graham ‘ Suggs’ McPherson.
