Combining Azymuth-esc melodic grace with complex, world influenced groove construction - normally synonymous with larger instrumental ensembles like Snarky Puppy - provides the perfect bedrock for extensive and explorative solo sections, more reminiscent of Keith Jarrett’s piano performances than any modern trio. In this respect, Manchester-based trio Big Enough Umbrella is a true product of it’s musical diet.
Their accomplished individual craft and tight onstage chemistry has garnered the attention and praise of jazz greats Jason Rabello (Sting, Jeff Beck), Renato “Massa” Calmon (Azymuth, Marcos Valle) and Dominic Miller (Sting, ECM).
Forming in 2022, the group wasted no time in hitting the live scene as well as building up their catalogue of recorded music. In 2023 they completed their debut tour across the UK and released their first single “Trafalgar Arches”. The trio is also a regular in Manchester’s legendary Matt and Phred’s Jazz Club, playing their extensive discography of written material and inventive arrangements. Although more than the sum of it’s parts, each individual is a sought after musician in their own right, contributing to the sounds of a wide range of artists including Dove Ellis, Daisy Cameron and Nessa Tenny.
