Big Glockz is the drill rapper putting Luton on the map.
With a deep baritone reminiscent of Barry White, Big Glockz is adding his own stamp to the drill sound. Growing up on grime, Big Glockz always appreciated and respected rapping as a craft, but it was drill that caught his attention. He jumped in the booth in 2016 to record his first release ‘Justified’ alongside right hand man and fellow Luton native JadaRTR, but it was the 2017 release ‘Qwactive’ which really made people sit up and listen - “Jada & Big Glockz put Luton on the map as they make their SB debut over a crazy LA BEATS production.”
Big Glockz is very open about the influence of his environment, his time in jail and how these experiences fuel the music he’s creating. His African and specifically Nigerian heritage also served as inspiration for tracks like ‘Zulu Man’ (2019) and upcoming release ‘Pounded Yam.’
It’s clear that lyrics, flow and correlation are a key part of the music Big Glockz releases. Tracks like ‘Molotov’ (2019) for example are scattered with creative word play and cold bars. With tracks featured on SBTV, LinkUp TV and Pressplay as well as recognition from tastemakers like Jamal Edwards and Kenny All Star, Big Glockz has already made a sizable impact on the UK’s drill scene.
Like grime in the early 2000s, drill is cementing itself as an era-defining genre and Big Glockz is part of the movement. There’s more to come from this young talent.
