Big Sand is a science fiction virtual band, set on a beautiful but harsh desert planet.
It's the new project from musician and former triple j Brekkie host Sally Coleman, who’s created the songs with a cast of Australia’s favourite artists, and collaborated with illustrators, animators, writers, developers and more to bring the characters to life.
The elevator pitch? Gorillaz, but Aussie. Disney, but indie. Pop, but weird and nerdy.
Get ready to meet big-eared outcast Taal, her giant insectoid bandmates, and their irresistibly cute roadie Kiz-OO, as they travel the desert together. There’s singing. There’s dancing. There’s mysteries, bandits, adventures, escapades, hijinx, shenanigans - you name it.
The band’s debut single, Take Me Home, was co-written and co-produced with ARIA nominee Alice Ivy, and tells the story of lead singer Taal’s arrival on the surface of her desert planet, after being rejected from her underground colony.
