Silently recognized as the bridge between the old and new, Big Spank has ventured his way into his music career in a very different path than other Hip-Hop/R&B artists. Unlike most of his generation, Spank grew up listening to genres like Classical, the Blues, and R&B/Soul; with influences like <a href="spotify:artist:6hnWRPzGGKiapVX1UCdEAC" data-name="Sam Cooke">Sam Cooke</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1XkoF8ryArs86LZvFOkbyr" data-name="Mary J. Blige">Mary J. Blige</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:0fauHpmSHwodVYIjTqOGHz" data-name="Yiruma">Yiruma</a>. It wasn’t until learning the history of his grandfather, from West Philadelphia who had taught himself how to play several instruments, when Spank understood his potential in music; so, he followed in his grandfather's footsteps in teaching himself to play the piano. During his learning period, Spank’s father explained his time in Overbrook High School, where he attended with <a href="spotify:artist:41qil2VaGbD194gaEcmmyx" data-name="Will Smith">Will Smith</a>, in the graduating class of 1986. His father would recite some of the freestyles that they had performed together in the school’s stairwells & hallways, sparking the fire inside of Spank’s passion forever.
