Billy Lister, a singer/songwriter hailing from Boerne, Texas, carries on the musical legacy of his late grandfather, Big Bill Lister, who once toured with the legendary Hank Williams Sr. during the 1950s. As the opening act for Hank at the Grand Ole Opry, Big Bill not only discovered Hank's recording of "There's A Tear In My Beer," but also instilled a deep love for music in Billy.
However, Billy's passion for music didn't stop with his grandfather. His father, Weldon, a highly skilled guitarist, taught himself to play songs by ear, passing on this talent to Billy. Meanwhile, his mother, Toni, gifted him with his incredible voice. Growing up, she would sing timeless classics like "Me & Bobby McGee," "Mr. Bojangles," "Love At The Five & Dime," and "Lone Star State Of Mind."
Keeping the family tradition alive, Billy's late cousin, Dave Kirby, made a name for himself as a songwriter and session musician. Some of his most notable compositions include "Anybody Goin To San Antone" and "Sidewalks of Chicago," the latter being recorded by Merle Haggard. Dave had the privilege of playing alongside renowned artists such as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and George Jones. Interestingly, he even married Merle's ex-wife, Leona Williams, an incredibly talented songwriter and singer herself. Leona penned hits like "Yes Ma'am He Found Me In A Honky Tonk," "Your Shoeshine Girl," and "Dallas."
