Bisco Smith

Bisco Smith (aka <a href="spotify:artist:2qSgLSTbwSGJg1Y5BtZdUT">Bisc1</a>) is a Brooklyn-based rapper and graffiti artist. Over the past ten years, through his work as a club DJ, and well-received mixtapes, EPs, and albums and artwork, <a href="spotify:artist:2qSgLSTbwSGJg1Y5BtZdUT">Bisc1</a> gained renown in New York's underground hip-hop and art scene. He came to New York from Connecticut at age 18. He released The Basics EP in 2006, followed by the 2007 mixtape, The Stay Up Project. By 2008, after his single "Turbulence," from When Electric Night Falls, started gaining traction, <a href="spotify:artist:2qSgLSTbwSGJg1Y5BtZdUT">Bisc1</a> began receiving nation-wide recognition, including features in urban magazines The Source and Skunk. He released The Broadcast in 2010. <a href="spotify:artist:2qSgLSTbwSGJg1Y5BtZdUT">Bisc1</a>'s sound is congruous with that of his underground New York City peers, with insular lyrics atop claustrophobic production. Fellow hip-hop artists were noticing <a href="spotify:artist:2qSgLSTbwSGJg1Y5BtZdUT">Bisc1</a>'s graphic art, which led to work with artists from <a href="spotify:artist:2dWF6m2ksP9GN75fufFp16">Murs</a> to <a href="spotify:artist:57UnSUpae3SbRekxNa5Kgl">El-P</a> to <a href="spotify:artist:2fSaE6BXtQy0x7R7v9IOmZ">Aesop Rock</a>. He's done cover art, designed promotional materials, and spearheaded art direction for labels such as <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Definitive+Jux%22">Definitive Jux</a>, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ninja+Tune%22">Ninja Tune</a>, and others. In 2009, in conjunction with the release of When Electric Night Falls, <a href="spotify:artist:2qSgLSTbwSGJg1Y5BtZdUT">Bisc1</a> toured the U.S., performing at popular festivals like South by Southwest and Scribble Jam, where he shared stages with the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:2gINJ8xw86xawPyGvx1bla">KRS-One</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6CsOL9C9iLL0eWKINlDxzQ">Jeru the Damaja</a>. ~ Vincent Thomas, Rovi
