Black Lions is a dance music duo from Oulu, Finland comprised of artists/producers Jerry Hämäläinen and Tuomas Pousi. The pair felt an instant connection upon working together for the first time in 2014. At first, the sound was mostly dubstep, but Black Lions has now evolved into a chill-but-danceable style that emphasizes groove and melody and incorporates singers. Chill track number one, “Paradise,” dropped in April of 2018 and has done well. A listen to upcoming Black Lions material like “OMG We Were” will show that a large-scale commercial breakthrough is entirely possible. That would suit Hämäläinen and Pousi quite well, as they aspire to release as much music as they can, play it live, and develop an international career. Influences include DJ Snake and Diplo but Black Lions can stand on its own artistic merit and never imitates. Is Black Lions the future of dance music? Those in the know say “yes.”
