(...) There is an urgency about Sons of Saturn, though it’s neither fast nor slow; it’s just on its way to take care of some business. With a determined, guitar-driven focus and earnest, harmony-rich singing, the song reminds me of an up-tempo Apostle of Solitude. You can certainly hear hints of Black Sabbath, Paradise Lost, Solitude Aeturnus, and Mercyful Fate – a few of the band’s prime influences – yet these serve only as points of reference for your humble music reviewer. Surely, Black Lotus stands strong on their own terms.

Black Lotus, their name implies, also derives much of its inspiration from the world of the occult (some of you Magic, The Gathering fans picked up on that right from the get-go). Lyrics are eminently symbolic, the band’s bio tells us, expressing a dystopic vision of society and their view of the world. Classic mythology, occultism, and personal experiences and visions are the sources for their compositions.

By the end of its near-eight-minute duration, I was ready to hit the replay button again and have since done so too many times to count. In fact, god damn it, I want more! And more you and I shall both have.
