Out of a shared need to create a textured and deep wave of sonic obliteration, Black Spirit Crown formed in late 2015. Not wanting to be your typical doom metal band, Dan and Chris decided to forgo the expected screaming traditionally embraced by their peers, choosing instead to layer melodic, harmonized vocals over thick detuned guitars, massive fuzzed out bass, and monstrous pummeling drums. They quickly made their mark on the Ohio doom scene, opening for bands such as Conan, Valkyrie, Inter Arma, Karma to Burn, and The Obsessed.
Our mutual love for music that is low, slow, and unafraid to take its time to make its point left us with no real choice as far as genre went. We knew we were a doom band as soon as we struck our first note together and let it ring through the universe. That said, we don’t write material with the intent of remaining within the confines of a genre. Our songs range stylistically from sludgy whole-note dirges to driving heavy metal sagas.
