Born Aza Menziwa, BlackSoul is a rapper and beatmaker from Khayelitsha, Cape Town who started releasing music in 2017 via SoundCloud and quickly picked up a good following because of the unique type of music he makes, which he calls GUNDAM. His last full project offering was in 2019 when he released his first Ep, titled “Days Before The Messages”.
He’s also known for his beautiful underrated soul touching song titled ‘Amber’ featuring Kole and Sundbamba, a track that caught the attention of many people and artists around Cape Town which dropped in 2019, Blacksoul is now back with a bang under new management by ‘Restless Gen’.
He’s set to drop a new project titled iThesho, date to be confirmed. On the 20th, he took to social media to announce the release date of the lead single to the project title ‘Incoko’.
The whole Ep is said to embody some of the things he has seen in his surroundings. Some songs were written after certain events, some are written through observation and taking note of what is happening eKasi.
‘’This is me just showing the good and bad side of the place i grew up in, I called it Ithesho because, ITHESHO means "work" or "hustle". You'd ask a random guy "usukaphi jo?" (Where do you come from?), he'll prolly reply "ndisuka etheshweni" (I’m coming from work or hustling)’’
Blacksoul feels it is his job to tell the stories of his hood in a musical, poetic and african way..
