Blaq Purl

Only in the deep wavy waters of the musical industry can the unique Blaq Purl be found. With his own record label - Spit Fiyah Records Inc., having mastered the art of studio engineering, being a DJ as well as being a producer and recording artiste, Kevin Richards, stage name Blaq Purl, is as rare as Pinctada Margaritifera itself – the only oyster that can produce a "Blaq Purl".

The Caribbean island Jamaica is from whence the musical guru reigns. Spanish Town, St. Catherine to be exact. Blaq Purl has been in love with music from the tender age of three. If you’re from the Caribbean, then you won’t be surprised of his bench banging days at school. Those are the days he clashed with schoolmates using songs of then famous Jamaican artistes before creating his own songs and eventually finding his own voice. His passion for music was then revived and reawakened after what seemed to be a drought. This master of music soon became a selector with friends Lance and Rubba G on their unique sound “Double Beat”. That inspired him to have a sound of his own which he called “Monster Beat”.

Shortly after, with a CD full of instrumentals, he migrated to the United States. Blaq Purl expressed, “That’s when I got driven and started to research and use programs such as Protools. I became a studio engineer and eventually opened my own studio.
