Blondeking is an 80s-inspired musical project created in 2017. It started as a way to share my music with friends and family and finally embrace a part of myself that I had kept hidden for years.
Although I had some success in my teenage years, including regional radio airplay and interest from major labels, I eventually put my musical aspirations aside. Years later, I realized that I couldn't ignore this passion any longer and decided to reign as the king of my own musical jungle. Thus, the name Blondeking was derived from something I read once about the Lion sometimes being referred to as the blond king.
I draw inspiration from the ideas that made 80s alternative music so good. Bands such as New Order, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran, as well bands like Clan of Xymox, Front 242, and Throbbing Gristle, are inspirations. Productions from producers like Stephen Hague and Dave Bascombe are also part of my study.
I frame my music like it is from a multi-verse where the early to mid-1980s never ended. I don’t intend to sound like an 80s band, but I do try to think about the approach to songwriting and production from that era while taking full advantage of modern tools.
