Blue Prototype and its self-described “jazz-metal” make a bold statement on their debut Believe in Nothing by combining two very different musical passions. From Lamb of God, Ihsahn, and Dream Theater to Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, and Duke Ellington, the disparate influences of this Richmond, Virginia-based band certainly make a curious combination.

So, is Blue Prototype a metal band playing jazz, or a jazz band playing metal? Who can tell? Or for that matter, who cares? What Blue Prototype is is simply, aggressive, intense, often dark music with some creative rhythm and a passion for improvisation.
