Gio, going by the stage name “Bluejay”, melds electric disco, neo-soul, and jazz into a genre-fluid sound. A Seattle-based multi-instrumentalist drawing on influences from the likes of FKJ and Tom Misch, he dances on stage from vocals to guitar, keys to bass, looping together head-bopping rhythms and funky bass lines with cascading guitar runs and colorful synths. Trained as a sound engineer and ecologist, he draws inspiration from natural soundscapes and birdsong, and collects field recordings that bring an organic texture to his music.
Gio has opened for Flume, AlunaGeorge, and Kaytranada at Frost Amphitheater in Stanford, California. His solo project Bluejay began with the debut single “Window Watching” in 2020, featured by The Jazz Hop Café. A string of inspired releases have followed since, with the “Pedals and Nettles” receiving praise by The Sound You Need, and solidifying a unique brand of sound that has led fans to remark, “that sounds like a Bluejay.”
