Bochum Welt is the stage name of Italian electronic musician Gianluigi Di Costanzo. The name combines the German word for “world” (welt) and that of a high-powered astral telescope.
He released records on established labels. His first single for Aphex Twin's Rephlex label, "Scharlach Eingang" (1994), published by Warner/Chappell Music, was so accomplished that NME ran an article claiming Bochum Welt could be a ghost project by Aphex Twin.
His debut album for Sony Music Japan, "Module 2 / Desktop Robotics", collected early works, followed by "Robotic Operating Buddy" (Rephlex), nominated in 2009 as a top 15 electronica album by The Wire (UK).
In 2009 BMG signed him to a long-term publishing deal. Rephlex released his 2013 album "Good Programs (To Be Coloured in Yellow)" and a collaborative EP with Heinrich Muller (Drexciya), both published by BMG. The EP was nominated by FACT (UK) among the 50 greatest 10″ records of its lifetime.
After a rooftop show at Ace Hotel LA, Bochum Welt and Joshua Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv / Nine Inch Nails) began collaborating, leading to "Seafire" (CPU/BMG, 2019–2020).
Special editions of FOAS / Desktop Robotics and Module 2 (BMG) followed in 2022 and 2024.
He also worked with Thomas Dolby's Headspace and Beatnik Inc., behind multimedia for Spielberg, Bowie and others.
In 2025, he teamed up with Jil Sander’s Simone Bellotti on "Wanderlust", a project with vinyl EP, digital album, video by Christopher Simmonds, and live event at OHG Hamburg.
