The history of Bohuslän Big Band goes back to the early 1800s, when they were one of many military orchestras in Sweden under the name of Bohus Battalion. From the mid-1950s, the band evolved into one of Sweden’s only two fully professional big bands, consisting of sixteen full-time musicians.
From swing to avant-garde, Bohuslän Big Band covers the entire spectrum of jazz, while also crossing over into other genres with leading Swedish artists. Over the years, the band has performed with international jazz giants such as Quincy Jones, Gregory Porter, Carla Bley, Joe Lovano, Maria Schneider, Avishai Cohen, Viktoria Tolstoy, Vince Mendoza, Sinne Eeg, and Nils Landgren.
Together with pianist and composer Danilo Pérez, the band was nominated for a GRAMMY Award at the 68th Annual GRAMMY Awards (2026) for the album Lumen, underscoring its strong international profile and artistic excellence.
