Bokotono are an instrumental rock band formed in late 2017 in the west of Ireland. Part post hardcore and part math rock, the band bear the torch for the Irish bands that formed the foundation of this "sound" on a global scale, in the ilk of the Richter Collective. Think Fall Of Troy, Adebisi Shank and And So I Watch You From Afar but with a touch of the more evil side of the same coin á la Daughters and Russian Circles.
Their first full year as a band saw the release of the double A-Side “You’re Looking A Little Rough Around The Edges || Somewhere In The Second Season” and an accompanying slew of gigs across Ireland with some of Ireland and the UK’s finest instrumental/math rock bands. The weird and wonderful video for “You’re Looking A Little Rough Around The Edges” was premiered on The Thin Air and the track itself was included in their “Top 100 Irish Tracks of 2018”.
Their new self-titled EP, scheduled for release in January 2020 marks a departure from the riff-centric style of their first release. Self recorded throughout 2019 and mixed/mastered by CJ Ridings (Big Jesus, Microwave, Whores), the 4-track EP was written with a focus on creating expansive and dark soundscapes whilst maintaining both melody and intensity and takes inspiration in different forms from a broad range of bands and genres, such as Mutiny On The Bounty, Bats, Daughters, and Cult Leader.
