In the summer of 2020 Born on a Wednesday went into the studio on a minimal budget and recorded 12 tracks, live-off-the-floor, in what came to be their debut album, Western Wind. The emergence of a global pandemic halted the ability to play in a live setting but presented an opportunity to record and share a set of songs they were deeply connected to. The project is an authentic representation of a band locked in a moment of clarity - a fully present expression of their distinctive sound. Roots Music Canada deemed the album “an absolutely captivating debut”.
Following the success of the debut album, the band was awarded a financial grant from CreativeBC, a program that supports the careers of emerging artists in British Columbia. The project focus was to embark on a more ambitious studio experience. The result of this initiative is From The Headwaters, their second full-length album release in less than a year. While maintaining a present and live feel, the album is a more patient, thoughtful, and dynamic representation of their one-of-a-kind brand of mountain folk music.
While remaining grounded in a love of sharing music with one another, Born on a Wednesday has matured into a sound that that feels intimately familiar and genuine. With a style that draws from range of musical influences, it continues to be compelling songwriting that gives Born on a Wednesday a sound that bends through many genres but is uniquely theirs.
