Brad Smolkin is a singer-songwriter, pianist, guitarist and virtual instrumentalist from New Orleans. He has performed in clubs up and down Bourbon Street, on the riverboat Natchez, in folk bars, the Fairmont Hotel (f/k/a The Roosevelt), and across the South. His eclectic musical influences, which include Bob Dylan, Donovan, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Beatles, are readily apparent in the tracks on his latest CD release, “Phoenix Rising,” and his earlier CD, “Zero to Sixty.” Both albums are a mix of folk rock, love songs, pop, and playful humor. His single, “Mardi Gras Queen,” is where Rock’n’Roll meets Ragtime meets Dixieland Jazz.
The songs on his first two CDs, “Shirei T’fillah (Songs of Prayer)” and “Sound the Shofar,” consist primarily of Jewish prayers set to new music.
