Who is Braidwood? If I had a dollar for everytime I’ve been asked that… I would at least have some money. Despite the stunning instrumentation and diverse voices, Braidwood is in fact just one talented young woman with a number of guitars, access to Garageband, some collaboration with the poet Georgie Braidwood and contributions vocal, instrumental and inspirational from family and friends. All these disparate influences and abilities coalesce into 4 glorious collections of life affirming lyrical joy and mischievous musical mayhem from the mind and soul of one Eliza Braidwood.
Raised in a rich, diverse cultural wonderland, shaped by classic cinema, wonderful books, deep conversations and an extensive vinyl collection. From this deep well of inspiration, influence and imagination come the richly textured collection of tracks you are about to explore.
Some of these tracks date back to her time at the BBC and were recorded at Maida Vale Studios. Many were recorded at home in an acoustically endowed closet in New Zealand. You’ll hear rolicking folk, disturbing murder ballads, tender love songs, hilarious love songs, brit pop bangers and a great deal of joyous fun. If you hear echoes of Bob Dylan, Pattie Smith, The Beatles, PJ Harvey, Billy Bragg or Annie Lennox this is the musical heritage she grew up in and inhabits ‘til this day, and you dear reader may have tastes almost as good as mine. So, sit back, relax and … Enjoy.
