Branches were formed at Lumb Baptist Church in the Rossendale Valley of Lancashire in the late 1960's. In those early days however, the group were known as the Samaritans, but became Branches in the 1970's. Whilst there have been variations in the line-up over the years, the core of the group remained constant, with Carole Berry the main lead singer throughout. The style of music played has varied a little, but has always tended to return to the original contemporary acoustic folk sound. Although some recording has taken place, the group has not existed as a regular performing entity since the illness in 2001 of guitarist/singer David Worswick, who passed away in April 2003. Most of the songs used by the group, particularly in the later years were written by guitarist Michael Sharp and we have tried to make a good number of these available for anyone who wishes, to listen to on Spotify. The overall aim of the group has always been to share our Christian faith through music and hopefully we have achieved this in some way.
On 1st March 2021, we will be releasing another selection of songs under the title Love Never Ends.
