Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, Brandon Tory was raised there alongside two younger siblings as part of an innately artistic family that endowed him with a love of music and spirituality. His great-grandfather Lennie Johnson, who taught at Berkeley, played trumpet for the likes of Count Basie and Quincy Jones; his grandfather, Larry Johnson, worked as a fine artist; his father Tory was an art director. Brandon’s mid-teens coincided with a period of homelessness—as well as his growing love for coding and hacking which he kept a secret from his hip-hop-loving inner-city friends. After graduating with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts, he pursued his musical dream in Atlanta, Georgia, collaborating in the studio with future platinum producer Evon Barnes. Relocation to L.A. then saw Brandon learn to play guitar and really advance his sound. Affiliations with Timbaland and Dallas Austin helped place him on the map; working as a coder for Apple in Cupertino funded his "Multidream" concept that melded late night recordings in an old San Jose band room with his double life in Hollywood. Brandon’s deep passion for innovation has evolved via influences that include Kanye West, Bon Iver, JAY-Z, <a href="spotify:artist:6l3HvQ5sa6mXTsMTB19rO5" data-name="J. The result: his new album Unicorn which, to quote him, “blends the themes of art, technology, nature, and Coachella.”
