Formed in 1997, Canadian hip-hop crew Brassmunk spent the lion's share of their first few years together releasing a steady stream of independent singles before the major label Virgin came along and offered them a deal. Members S-Roc, Clip, Agile, and May 19 released their first EP, Dark Sunrise, on 54th/Virgin in 2002, and in 2003 the EP was expanded and re-released as a full-length with the group's early work added on. Dark Sunrise was a critical hit, and earned a nomination for Best Rap Recording at the 2004 Juno Awards. In between releasing their first album and releasing its follow-up, FEWturistic, Brassmunk lost founding member May 19. He was replaced by Reign, and the new album hit the streets in 2007. Brassmunk earned their second Juno nomination in the 2008 edition of the awards ceremony. ~ Chris True, Rovi
