Brek is an acoustic band from Iceland.
Band members are Harpa Þorvaldsdóttir singer and pianist, Jóhann Ingi Benediktsson on guitar, Guðmundur Atli Pétursson on mandolin and Sigmar Þór Matthíasson on double bass.
In their music they seek to intertwine influences from different places to make a chatchy and comfortable mood but yet demanding to the audience. They use voices combined with rythmic and dynamic dialouge of the instruments to drive the music with.
They released their first album in 2021. The album won album of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards 2022 in folk and world music.
