Brian Q. Torff- Run With Scissors
Brian Q. Torff has travelled many miles, from Illinois blues and rock bands to backing Frank Sinatra, to playing blistering bass solos with jazz pianist George Shearing at the White House. But what makes Torff unique is his songwriting, laced with vocals, harmonica, slide guitar, and vintage keyboards. Born in Chicago, Torff plays a modern blues-soaked style influenced by Mose Allison and driven by drum machines.
“I am drawn to the south; downstate Illinois reminds me of Mississippi,” says Torff.
He explores Delta blues sounds, placing them over a hip-hop undercurrent. It is the warmth of a different sun over rumbling thunder clouds. His audience are those who seek a bridge between old and new, the past coming forward.
“In music I’m an open field runner,” said Brian Q. Torff, “I make music that seeks daylight with room to move.” His new album, “Run With Scissors,” travels the miles, from inner city to country crossroads.
