Born to a Quebecois mother and a Polish father, Briga (aka Brigitte Dajczer) is a Montreal-based producer, composer, performer, violinist and multi-instrumentalist.
Nominated in 2018 for a JUNO award and several times at both the Canadian Folk Music Awards and Québec’s Gala ADISQ Awards, her style has been described as Canadian Turbo Folk wrapped in Balkan and Maghrebian grooves. Her influences drawing mainly from her Eastern European origins, she succeeds in seamlessly weaving them into a typically-Montreal sound.
Briga’s music challenges our standard conception of traditional folk music as a purist’s genre and heredity, instead favouring a more flexible definition. She reflects the reality of the Canadian musical landscape, one which offers a diversity of traditional styles and influences. We're verging on the creation of a "new folk", inspired by a wave of renewal representing one’s unique & complex identity.
