Broken Boats

If there is such a thing as a post-punk-new-wave-indie-alt-rock lineage that started with Joy Division in the late seventies, birthed the Smiths in ’82, and was then inherited by The National at the turn of the millennium, it now thrums in the capillaries of British, East Kent band Broken Boats.
Self-described as “an original, lyric-driven, alt-synth indie 5-piece” the band consists of frontman and songwriter Kieron Stone, lead guitarist Rachel Vernall, drummer Stefan White, bassist Greg Bayliss and keyboardist Chris Marsh. The group have spent the last few years writing, performing and honing the tracks from their debut album, I Remember This House, released in August this year.
Broken Boats are a group of musicians who enjoy playing together in front of friends, strangers, and soon to be fans. They are entirely free of the artifice and gimmickry that could be enticing to an independent act looking to stand out amongst their contemporaries in a local scene. Theirs is a music of community. Those neighbourly feelings you wondered about but never found on your street can be felt in the front row at a Boats’ gig.
