After 22 years of dormancy, the dry, aching body of the cicada unearths itself from the muddy depths. Its recycled soul reborn yet again to live a life of solitude. It pulls itself up the twisting, ancient oak tree; its body beginning to split. With the freedom of the sky on its mind, its exoskeleton splits and reveals its new form. The fractals of its newly formed wings glisten in the morning light. It sets off for a new life among the skies, leaving behind the shell it once inhabited.
